ABOUT NOVA SEND SERVICES
Where Nova Began
Nova SEND Services was created to provide specialist tutoring and consultancy for children and young people who need support outside what their current educational setting can offer. This includes learners whose needs are not being met in school, as well as those receiving EOTAS packages or support under Section 19 while they wait for a suitable placement. Many families come to Nova during periods of uncertainty or transition, and my work focuses on offering emotionally safe, relationship‑first tutoring alongside clear, practical SEND consultancy that helps families understand their options, navigate the system, and feel supported at every step.
Meet Alex
I am Alex, the founder of Nova SEND Services and a specialist SEND consultant with a deep commitment to supporting children and young people with additional needs. My work is shaped by lived experience, professional training, and a strong belief that every learner deserves to feel safe, understood, and supported.

My Path into Communication and SEND

My career began in language and communication, studying British Sign Language Interpreting and English at the University of Wolverhampton. Working as a BSL interpreter across education and community settings taught me the importance of accessibility, trust, and reasonable adjustments.

After the birth of my first child, I retrained as a teacher and completed a PGCE in Primary with Mathematics (QTS). During this time, I recognised that my son was showing signs of being autistic. After a long and emotionally complex diagnostic journey, he received diagnoses of Autistic Spectrum Condition and (several years later), ADHD. This experience opened my eyes to the invisible barriers families face and the emotional toll of navigating a system that often feels overwhelming.
From classroom to leadership
I moved into the SEND sector, first as a maths teacher and later as an Assistant Headteacher. In these roles I supported learners aged five to nineteen with a wide range of needs including ASC, SEMH, and complex comorbid profiles. I worked closely with families, schools, and professionals, gaining a deep understanding of the challenges that arise when a child cannot access education in a way that feels safe or manageable.
Seeing the gap
During this time, I became increasingly aware of the lack of specialist support for children who were out of education, waiting for a placement, or struggling to attend due to anxiety or trauma. Families often shared stories of tutors who understood the curriculum but not the child, and who were not equipped to work with learners who communicated through behaviour or who needed a relationship first approach
Creating Nova SEND Services
Nova SEND Services was created to fill that gap. I provide trauma informed tutoring for learners who need emotionally safe support, along with clear and practical SEND consultancy for families navigating complex processes such as EHCPs, EOTAS packages, and Section 19 provision. My approach is grounded in connection, flexibility, and a belief that education must adapt to the learner, not the other way around.
